More than an hour and a half after cutting across four lanes of oncoming traffic on Avenue C and crashing into a tree, Jayson Williams, the former New Jersey Nets basketball player, told a police officer, “I’m sorry for causing trouble,”

Mr. Williams, who sustained a non-life threatening injuries from the crash, was arraigned on Thursday via videoconference from Bellevue Hospital Center on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail.
